President Shavkat Mirziyoyev assured that Russia traditionally remains a major trading partner of Uzbekistan. Trade turnover between the two countries has increased by 30% since the beginning of the year, and over the past seven years it has increased 2.5 times.
The agency quotes the President of Russia as saying that both countries are consistently switching to settlements in national currencies: the share of the ruble in commercial transactions amounted to 58% last year and continues to grow.
“Kommersant” wrote that Vladimir Putin called regional cooperation a very important area. "The main thing here is not to interfere with people, to create conditions, and we will try to do this, in Russia for sure," the newspaper quotes. "The Forum of Regions will help develop trade, economic and humanitarian ties."
The business publication “Vedomosti” states that Russia and Uzbekistan have expressed their readiness to sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of pension provision in the near future.
The publication cites statistics that Russia is now Uzbekistan's second economic partner after China. In the first quarter of 2024, trade turnover increased by 19.8% year-on-year and amounted to $ 2.4 billion.
It is noted that Uzbek students are among the leaders among the CIS countries in terms of the number of students in Russia. Today, their number is 63 thousand, 14 thousand of whom study on a budget.
