The Thai government has announced the abolition of the visa regime for tourists from several countries. This initiative is part of a set of measures aimed at developing the kingdom's tourism industry.

Government spokesman Chai Vacharon said that the list of countries with visa-free entry is expanding from 57 to 93, reports Daryo.uz with a link to the Bangkok Post.

Uzbekistan has become one of the 36 new countries covered by the visa-free regime. According to China Daily, this list also includes India, Cambodia, Laos, Kazakhstan and other countries.

Citizens of the countries on this list can now stay in Thailand without a visa for up to 60 days instead of 30. Also, 31 countries (previously there were 19) now have the opportunity to obtain visas on arrival.

In addition, the government will introduce a new type of visa - Destination Thailand Visa, designed for foreign citizens working remotely in digital industries ("digital nomads"). Holders of this visa will be able to use medical and other services on an equal basis with Thai citizens.

According to the government's calculations, revenues from visa fees will be reduced by about 12.3 billion baht ($335 million). However, these losses will be offset by increased revenue from the tourism industry.

As of February 2024, Uzbek citizens could visit 31 countries of the world without a visa, including Iran and the UAE. Another 28 countries, including Thailand, issued visas on arrival.
