Uzbekistan and Russia are at the stage of development of new multimodal transport corridors

    On January 25, 2023, in pursuance of the decisions taken during the 23rd meeting of the Russian-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, a working meeting was held at the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan.

    It was attended by responsible employees of the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, JSC "Uzbekistan Temir Yullari" and the Center for the Study of Problems of Transport and Logistics Development under the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the autonomous non-profit organization "Directorate of International Transport Corridors" of the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

    The meeting discussed options for the formation of new logistics transport corridors passing through the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to increase the volume of international cargo transportation, including transit, as well as the issues of diversification of foreign trade routes for cargo transportation.

    The sides exchanged views on the potential of the alternative multimodal transport and transit corridor "Russia - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - Afghanistan- Pakistan" linking the Russian Federation with Southeast and South Asia.

    The meeting participants agreed to continue discussing the development of new transport and transit corridors in 2023, and also identified further ways to enhance the deepening and expansion of bilateral cooperation.

    For these purposes, a Memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Directorate of International Transport Corridors and the Center for the Study of Problems of Transport and Logistics Development under the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
