During the meeting, the Ministry provided information on the large-scale environmental reforms carried out by the Government of the country. In particular, the creation of the Climate Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change (Green University), the international expo hub of climate technologies in the Aral Sea region, as well as the results achieved within the framework of the Uzbekistan's Green Cities Rating project.
The foreign side highly appreciated the innovative initiative - the green cities rating system, which encourages cities throughout Uzbekistan and gives priority to environmentally friendly practices.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the parties discussed issues such as the organization of a side event dedicated to the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region at the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku in November this year and the intensification of cooperation within the framework of Phase 2 of the Aral Sea Trust Fund. It was noted that the global conference in Baku could become a suitable platform for Uzbekistan to fulfill its obligations under the Aral Sea Trust Fund.
In addition, the foreign side was informed about the completion of the current Framework Program of Cooperation in 2025 and the development of a new Framework Program by the UN Country Team in Uzbekistan. The Ministry was invited to take an active part in the formation of a new cooperation framework to ensure the integration of the most important environmental priorities.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on further strengthening cooperation in the field of environmental protection and climate change.
