The Foreign Ministry held a meeting with the head of the OHCHR Regional Office

    On June 12, 2024, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Muzafar Madrakhimov held a meeting with Matilda Bogner, Head of the Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia (OHCHR).

    During the meeting, the current state and prospects for the development of Uzbekistan's cooperation with OHCHR were discussed.

    Representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner were informed about the large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years, including in the field of human rights and freedoms, the promotion of gender equality, comprehensive youth development, and the complete eradication of forced and child labor.

    It was noted that the election of a representative of Uzbekistan as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee for the period 2025-2028, for the first time in the history of Central Asian countries, was evidence of the widespread recognition of the ongoing reforms.

    The parties also discussed the implementation of previously reached agreements and the development of joint programs and projects with the UN and its institutions, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
