Today, on February 2, 2022, the Olympic torch relay of the 2022 Winter Games started in Beijing. The ceremony took place in the Olympic Park in the north of the capital of the People's Republic of China. It will last three days.

During this time, the fire will visit Yanqing and Zhangjiakou - there are two clusters for the Games - on the Great Wall of China and in the Summer Palace, and in the evening of February 4 it will be delivered to the Beijing Olympic Park for the opening ceremony of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games, “Izvestia” reports.

The organizers decided to shorten the relay to three days due to the epidemiological situation. The relay will be remembered for the fact that amphibious robots and underwater robots will also participate in the transfer of the Olympic torch.

The torch for the relay was named "Flying", it is a spiral structure, the emblem of the 2022 Olympics is applied on the front. The red stripe running along the entire torch symbolizes the Great Wall of China and the Olympic ski slopes, and the silver one represents a person's desire for perfection.

The design is made in such a way that during the relay, when passing the fire, participants will need to weave torchlight ribbons.

The flame of the Beijing Olympics was lit on October 18, 2021 in Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. The next day, at the Panathinaikos Stadium in Athens, which hosted the first Olympic Games of our time in 1896, a ceremony of handing over the flame to the organizers of the OI-2022 in Beijing took place.

The delegation of the Organizing Committee of the Games on October 20, 2021 delivered the fire on a special charter flight to the international airport "Shoudu" of the Chinese capital.

The Olympics will be held on February 4-20, the Paralympics - March 4-13 this year. The upcoming Games will be held in three clusters at once: Beijing (hockey, figure skating, speed skating, curling), Zhangjiakou (biathlon, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping) and Yanqing (alpine skiing, bobsleigh, skeleton and luge).
