New protected natural territories have been established in Uzbekistan

    Presidential Decree No. PP-131 dated February 16, 2022 "On measures for the formation of protected natural territories in the system of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Ecology and Environmental Protection" was adopted.

    The resolution is formed in the form of a state environmental institution:

    • Central Kyzylkum National Nature Park with a total area of 120,000 hectares in Uchkuduk district;
    • Aktau-Tamdy State Reserve with a total area of 40,000 hectares in Tamdyn district.

    Sources of financing of the above-mentioned park and reserve:

    • in 2022 - funds of the Fund for Ecology, Environmental Protection and Waste Management of the State Committee of Ecology, as well as other sources not prohibited by law;
    • starting from 2023 - funds from the local budget of the Navoi region, the Fund for Ecology, Environmental Protection and Waste Management of the State Committee of Ecology, as well as other sources not prohibited by law.

    The National Nature Park "Central Kyzylkum" and the state reserve "Aktau-Tamdy" are under the jurisdiction of the State Committee of Ecology.

    The lands of the economic use zone of the Central Kyzylkum National Natural Park remain at the disposal of land users and tenants located in these territories.

    The document approved:

    • the total area of the Central Kyzylkum National Natural Park;
    • land areas allocated for the protected, recreational and economic use zones of the Central Kyzylkum National Natural Park;
    • land areas allocated for the protected area of the Aktau-Tamdy State Reserve.
