The fifth plenary session of the Senate considered the Law "On amendments to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Detention in Criminal Proceedings, aimed at preventing cases of torture against detainees."
During the meeting, it was noted that in recent years, extensive work has been carried out in the country aimed at further strengthening guarantees of citizens' rights and freedoms, including the prevention of cases of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
In addition, it was emphasized that no one can be subjected to torture, violence, or other cruel, inhuman or degrading punishments.
The discussed Law is a logical continuation of these reforms. It stipulates that detainees undergo a mandatory medical examination in the detention facility itself before being placed in a detention facility.
The adoption of this Law serves to further strengthen the guarantees of the inviolability of the honor and dignity of the individual, to enhance the authority of our State before the international community in terms of ensuring human rights.
The implementation of the law will ensure further improvement of citizens' access to justice, reliable protection of their violated rights and freedoms, as well as legitimate interests.
At the end of the discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
