A global partnership project on environmental connectivity has been launched in Uzbekistan

    Within the framework of CMS OP 14, an event dedicated to the launch of a new Global Partnership for Environmental Connectivity (GPEC) project was held in Samarkand.

    The event was attended by Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov, CMS Executive Secretary Amy Frenkel, Chairman of the IUCN World Commission for Protected Areas Madhu Rao, Chief Executive Officer of the Center for the Protection of Large Landscapes (CLLC), Chairman of the IUCN WCPA Communications Conservation Group Gary Tabor, Head of the Wildlife Connect initiative Rafael Antelo, Ronan Dantek, President of the Climate Chance Association, Director of Biodiversity, Nature and Health (ICLEI Africa) Ingrid Kutzi et al.

    "Uzbekistan is pleased to make a key contribution to this new Partnership and offer long-term commitments that are an integral part of a successful project. The creation of a new Global Partnership marks a turning point in our collective efforts. It provides a platform for cooperation between various stakeholders, contributing to the development and implementation of strategies to maintain, expand and restore environmental connectivity around the world," Aziz Abdukhakimov said in his welcoming speech.

    During the session, Amy Frenkel presented the project and talked about its significance.

    It was noted at the event that the implementation of the GPEC project will contribute to efforts to address key environmental communication priorities, identify and eliminate gaps, as well as expand policies and activities to preserve and restore interconnectedness at the national, transboundary and international levels.

    The project will focus on 4 key aspects: research, data and monitoring; environmental policy and legislation; implementation and implementation; awareness-raising and awareness-raising.
