An international conference of CIS Librarians will be held in Samarkand on May 15

    On May 15, an International Conference of CIS Librarians will be held in the ancient city of Samarkand, the pearl of the Great Silk Road, as part of the implementation of the Interstate Program "Samarkand - the Cultural Capital of the CIS - 2024" with the participation of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS member States and the Library Assembly of Eurasia.

    About 30 heads and leading specialists of the national libraries of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Moscow State and St. Petersburg State Institutes of Culture, state children's and youth libraries, border libraries of Central Asia will come together to discuss topical issues of modern library development, issues of presentation of printed and handwritten heritage in the digital environment, reading promotion programs, modern information and communication technologies in libraries, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee reports.

    The following events are planned within the framework of the conference:

    • Plenary session;
    • scientific and practical seminar "Information culture of the digital generation: new directions of the project "Formation of media and information literacy of children and youth in libraries of Uzbekistan";
    • special orientation meeting of the directors of the border libraries of Central Asia within the framework of the Library Assembly of Eurasia "Cross-border library cooperation: new prospects for international cooperation" (with video connection of representatives of the Russian State Library);
    • The signing ceremony of Cooperation Agreements between: the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan and the Russian State Library; the Mahmud Zamakhshari Information and Library Center of Khorezm Region and the Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky Central City Public Library; the Adib Sobir Termezi Information and Library Center of Surkhandarya Region and the Indira Gandhi Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.

    The delegates will also visit the libraries of the Samarkand region and take part in the XVII International Conference "Central Asia - 2024: Internet and Information and Library Resources in Science, Education, Culture and Business", which will be held on May 17 in Jizzakh.
