The delegation of Uzbekistan will take part in the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee

    The delegation of Uzbekistan will take part in the upcoming 45th expanded session of the World Heritage Committee in Riyadh. During the session, the Committee will review the implementation of the 1972 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in Member States.

    The Committee will also consider new candidates for the World Heritage List. Based on the assessment carried out by ICOMOS (International Council for the Preservation of Monuments and Places of Interest), the Dune news Agency reports.

    Currently, 195 countries are States parties to the UNESCO Convention of 1972. To date, 1,157 cultural/natural sites from 167 participating States have been included in the World Heritage List in accordance with the 1972 Convention. Among them, 43 are transboundary objects of 67 participating States.

    Recall that on July 6, 2022, at the 8th session of the General Assembly of the Member States of the Convention "on the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage", which was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Uzbekistan was elected a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
