Chinese companies will irrigate four regions of Uzbekistan

    Resolution No. 409 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated 11/29/2024 "On measures to implement projects for the reconstruction of irrigation infrastructure in Bukhara, Namangan, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions with the participation of the Export-Import Bank of the People's Republic of China" was adopted.

    A feasibility study of projects has been developed in Bukhara, Namangan, Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions to improve the water supply of irrigated lands, save water resources, and sustainably develop agriculture:

    · "Reconstruction of irrigation infrastructure in Bukhara, Namangan and Surkhandarya regions" with a preliminary cost of $160 million;

    · "Reconstruction of irrigation infrastructure in Kashkadarya region" with a preliminary cost of $60 million.

    The customer for the implementation of projects has identified the Center for the Implementation of Foreign Investment Projects in the Water sector under the Ministry of Water Management. And the source of financing for the implementation of projects is a preferential loan from the Export-Import Bank of the People's Republic of China.

    The general contractor of these projects, by way of exception, has been appointed by the PRC companies "CITIC Construction Co.Ltd" and "China SAMS Engineering Co., Ltd.".

    Starting in 2025, loan agreements with the Eximbank of the People's Republic of China are signed after the approval of a feasibility study of projects divided into parts based on the actual amount of work performed.

    In addition, within the framework of the project "Reconstruction of irrigation infrastructure in Kashkadarya region", 120 billion soums are allocated for the implementation of a 15% advance payment in 2025 at the expense of funds provided for the repair and restoration of land reclamation facilities in the local budgets of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the regions.

    Changes to the parameters of the State Budget for 2025 will be made after the approval of the feasibility study of the project, based on the terms of the loan agreement.
