The study, which aimed to establish the beneficial properties of turmeric, involved 40 patients aged 50 to 90 years. Previously, they complained of inattention and memory impairment.
For 18 months, the participants in the experiment received either a placebo or 90 mg of curcumin (a substance secreted from turmeric root) twice a day.
All participants underwent a comprehensive examination, and repeated diagnosis was carried out every six months.
Scientists have found that those who took curcumin had significantly improved memory and concentration. So, the results of the mindfulness test were 28 percent better than before eating the seasoning. Turmeric also had a positive effect on the mood of the subjects.
However, experts also found side effects - four people who used curcumin complained of abdominal pain and nausea.
In the future, scientists plan to expand the circle of volunteers, in particular, to include patients with depression.
