On October 20, 2022, in the capital, the State Statistics Committee, together with the Representative Office of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Uzbekistan, held a presentation on the preliminary results of Multi-Indicator Cluster Surveys (MKO).

Multi-indicator cluster surveys are an international household sample survey program developed by UNICEF, which collects data on many indicators mainly to assess the situation of children and women.

Since 1995, the ICO has been held in 118 countries. These surveys collect important statistical indicators such as maternal and child health, women's reproductive health, children's rights and education level, healthy and physical development of children.0

The Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva, who took part in the presentation with a welcoming speech, stressed that it is extremely important to have in-depth information about children, youth and women based on a multi-indicator cluster survey to develop targeted programs aimed at meeting the needs of these population groups. Special emphasis is placed on the fact that this information contributes to the improvement of legislation and creates an opportunity for more effective implementation of reforms in the field of social policy. Thus, the results of these surveys serve to target the investments of the national budget, as well as to develop programs that identify and eliminate the cardinal causes of factors that negatively affect the interests of children, as well as their rational assessment.

During the event, it was noted that the results of the ICO show a stable growth of the trajectory of the situation in Uzbekistan in recent years related to children and women. In particular, infant mortality is decreasing, preschool education rates have sharply increased, and children's medical and educational services are provided almost everywhere. For example, 96% of children aged 2 to 4 years have normal development in terms of health, learning and psychosocial well-being. This is one of the highest rates in our region.

According to the participants of the event, multi-indicator cluster surveys serve as a solid basis for making important strategic socio-economic decisions in the country. In particular, the proposals made based on the results of the survey find their practical implementation in legislation, decisions at the level of the President and the Government. More than 20 indicators related to the goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development have been formed.

At the end of the event, the important role of non-governmental non-profit organizations, civil society institutions, active citizens and the media in the process of conducting multi-indicator cluster surveys was emphasized, and an agreement was reached to establish a constructive dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation in this direction, the information service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
