If you quit smoking before the age of 40, you can expect the same life span as if a person had never smoked. This is the conclusion reached by scientists from the University of Toronto.

According to experts, at any age, a significant increase in life expectancy will occur within a few years after giving up cigarettes, Mir24 writes.

After 10 years, the body recovers almost completely. These conclusions are based on a study that covered 1.5 million people in a number of countries, who were monitored for 15 years.

The risk of premature death in smokers aged 40 to 79 years is three times higher than in those who have never smoked, the researchers concluded. And on average, smoking takes 12-13 years of life.
