The delegation of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan participates in the international program of observation of the general elections in South Korea

    The delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zayniddin Nizamkhodjayev, is taking part in the international monitoring program for the general elections in South Korea, which will determine the 22nd composition of the National Assembly (Parliament) of the country.

    58 representatives of electoral authorities from 27 countries, as well as international organizations dealing with election issues, take part in monitoring the parliamentary elections in Korea.

    On April 5 of this year, the official opening of the international monitoring program took place, during which participants got acquainted with the current electoral system of South Korea, with the stages of its formation and development.

    As part of the international observation program, the delegation of Uzbekistan took part in monitoring the preliminary voting at polling stations in Seoul on April 5-6. According to the National Election Commission (NEC), 31.28% or 13.84 million of the 44.28 million eligible voters voted on Friday and Saturday, while none of the previous early voting periods in South Korea reached the 30% threshold.

    On April 8, members of the Uzbek delegation participated in the Seoul International Forum on the 2024 elections. The National Council of Korea annually holds an international forum in spring, to which reputable experts in this field are invited to discuss issues related to election management, share ideas and discuss how to make elections around the world cleaner, fairer and better. The forum was held in the format of in-session meetings devoted to issues of political polarization, the role of artificial intelligence in modern electoral processes.

    On the same day, the Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of Uzbekistan met with the Chairman of the National Committee of Korea Tae-ak Ro.

    Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev thanked the NIC of Korea for the invitation to participate in the International Election Observation Program and an informative conversation. He also informed the participants of the meeting about the latest changes in the electoral legislation of Uzbekistan.

    The colleagues discussed issues of further development of cooperation between the central election authorities of the two countries to study the experience of organizing and conducting election campaigns within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed on February 6, 2016. Thanking the Uzbek delegation for participating in the international monitoring program for the parliamentary elections, the Head of the Republic of Korea stressed the established special relations with the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan. He expressed the desire of the NIC to further expand and develop relations and cooperation.

    Activities under the international surveillance program will continue until April 12.
