A new branch of St. Petersburg State University will appear in Tashkent this year - in the fall, the first students will be able to start classes. It will train highly qualified specialists in a number of areas, including the economy of Eastern countries, international relations, regional studies and many others.

The first will be the two-degree master's program "International Relations in the post-Soviet space", which will begin training this year.

"This educational program is relevant for both countries: The Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan is interested in training specialists in international relations in the post-Soviet space, which needs appropriate personnel, in addition, the program has already been "tested" - we have been implementing it together with the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies for a year. The implementation of this program on the basis of the branch in the format of two diplomas will allow to train specialists jointly and evenly distribute the resources of both St. Petersburg State University and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, as a result of which students will receive not one, but two diplomas," said Sergey Andryushin, Deputy Rector for International Affairs of St. Petersburg State University.

As Sergey Andryushin noted, the list of educational programs will be expanded. For example, admission to the History of Central Asia program will begin in 2023. The history of the Oriental Faculty of St. Petersburg University dates back almost 170 years, St. Petersburg State University orientalists have been working on expeditions in Central Asian states since the time of the Russian Empire and actively continued this activity in the Soviet era.

In the future, research in the field of biomedicine will be conducted on the basis of the branch in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan and the Tashkent pharmaceutical cluster "Tashkent Pharma Park". The possibility of opening programs in the field of biomedicine is also being considered.

"The development of this direction in Uzbekistan is just beginning, which is why the government of the republic is interested in attracting highly qualified specialists from leading Russian universities, where biomedical research is developing, so that they can support this endeavor. Thanks to this cooperation, the University will have access to one of the largest pharmaceutical clusters in Central Asia, which is currently being built near Tashkent, and the clinical base of Uzbekistan, where our specialists will be able to work with patients. This will contribute to the development of new research projects in the field of biomedicine and clinical trials," added Sergey Andryushin.

For information: the decision to establish a branch of St. Petersburg State University in Uzbekistan was made after an appeal from the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the support of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
