Chairman of the State Committee of Ecology of Uzbekistan addressed the UN Environment Assembly (UNEP)

    As previously reported, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairman of the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection N. Oblomuradov is taking part in the resumed 5th session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2).

    Within the framework of the event, the Chairman of the State Committee of Ecology made a report. The efforts of the government to improve the environmental and social situation in the Aral Sea region, the large-scale forest planting works carried out on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea and the activities of the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region were noted.

    The national initiative "Yashil Makon" was particularly noted for planting 200 million seedlings annually for five years and bringing the area of green zones in cities to 30% in the period up to 2030.

    Information was brought to the attention of the international community about the work on the gradual transition of the republic to the principles of "green economy", "green growth", improving energy efficiency and increasing the share of renewable energy sources, in particular, the opening of the first representative office of the Global Green Growth Institute in the Republic of Uzbekistan among the CIS and Central Asian countries was emphasized.

    The participants of the event were invited to take part in the International Forum under the auspices of the UN on the "green economy" in Nukus.

    The commitment and readiness of the country in strengthening and expanding international cooperation with UN organizations and participating countries was expressed, the press service of the State Committee of Ecology of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
