    An attempt to illegally export more than 5 million Russian rubles and 4 thousand dollars from Uzbekistan has been stopped in the Tashkent region, the press service of the regional customs administration informs.

    It is reported that customs officers examined the hand luggage of a citizen who intended to cross the customs post "Gishtkuprik" to get to a neighboring country. As a result of the inspection of hand luggage, 5 million 135 thousand Russian rubles (approximately 646 million 927 thousand soums) and 4 thousand dollars were found, which were not indicated in the customs declaration and were not declared during the oral interview.

    Currently, the customs authorities are continuing investigative actions, the press service added.

    Recall that in July of this year, an Uzbek man tried to smuggle diamonds worth 5 million rubles into Russia, hiding them in his underwear. In particular, Russian customs officers stopped a man who was trying to smuggle more than 60 diamonds worth about 645 million soums in his underwear.

    In addition, when checking his luggage, they found boxes with 13 gadgets from Apple, Samsung and Sony, as well as certificates for precious stones, which the smuggler at first was not going to voluntarily hand over.

    It was also noted that a criminal case has been opened against the Uzbek. He faces up to 7 years in prison.
