In Uzbekistan, it was proposed to introduce electronic bracelets for convicts

    The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan proposes to introduce electronic bracelets for those sentenced to restriction of liberty or under house arrest by 2025, it follows from the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers.

    The document has been published on the portal for discussion of draft normative legal acts, which will last until April 11. The document was developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.

    "To establish the practice of providing those sentenced to restriction of liberty and persons under house arrest with electronic bracelets in order to prevent them from re-committing offenses," the text of the document says.

    In accordance with the draft resolution, it is proposed to introduce a new procedure for the use of electronic bracelets from May 1 in stages and complete it throughout Uzbekistan by the end of 2024.

    Electronic bracelets will not be worn by pregnant women, as well as persons suffering from a number of diseases and having physical disabilities, the document says.

    Electronic bracelets in the punishment system in Uzbekistan began to be introduced in 2020 into the activities of the probation service. At the same time, it was planned to purchase 3,000 electronic devices for tracking persons sentenced to probation.
