    An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred on Wednesday morning near Taiwan, tremors were felt on the Japanese islands of Okinawa and Miyako, and a tsunami threat was declared for the region. This is reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

    The tremor occurred at 07:58 local time (02:58 Moscow time). The Taiwan Meteorological Administration estimated it at 7.2 points. According to the ministry, the hearth lay at a depth of 15.5 km, the epicenter was about 25 km from the city of Hualien.

    A few minutes later, another earthquake of magnitude 6.6 occurred near Taiwan. The Taiwanese service estimated it at 6.5 points. The epicenter was recorded 12.7 km from Hualien, the hearth lay at a depth of 5.5 km.

    Then, according to the Japanese department, several more aftershocks of magnitude up to 6.3 occurred to the east of Taiwan.

    According to Taiwanese seismologists, earthquakes of magnitude up to 6.2 were observed. As a result, several buildings in Hualien were damaged, in particular, one of them tilted heavily to the side, TVBS writes.

    According to preliminary information, four people were killed and 97 injured as a result of the earthquake in Taiwan, the China Times writes.
