Within the framework of the forum, a session "Cleanliness in everything: environmental friendliness as a business development tool" was held, which was attended by Adviser to the Minister of Ecology, Director of the National Center for Green Transformation and Adaptation to Climate Change Suna Park, head of ACWA Power in the republic John Zaidi, head of the UzGidro transformation Implementation office Pahlavon Nurmatov, Director of ESG consulting in Kazakh Institute of CAIER Aigerim Ospanova and Deputy Director of Huawei Uzbekistan Suli Gayrat.
In her speech, Suna Park said that by 2030 Uzbekistan plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 35% per unit of GDP, and also noted the importance of the country's gradual transition to a "green" economy.
"The state cannot dictate to business how to build entrepreneurial activity, but it can introduce a framework. I think it's not the requirements that need to be tightened, but the standards for emissions and other environmental indicators. Large manufacturing enterprises will not be able to become "green" in one year, this, of course, will cause high costs. But the process of the country's transition to a "green" economy has already begun, and we are working on improving regulations," the adviser to the minister said.
Suna Park also stressed that without the participation of business, the transformation of entrepreneurship in the republic into environmentally friendly is impossible.
In turn, Pahlavon Nurmatov spoke about ways to implement ESG principles in organizations of the republic and ways to transform entrepreneurship.
"We are working on the implementation of ESG principles throughout the country. In the next five years, it is planned to develop a "green" supply chain. For example, construction companies or other companies in the areas of service provision will be required to hire employees-environmentalists, safety specialists, etc. to create favorable conditions for sustainable development," said the head of the UzGidro transformation implementation office.
The forum also included discussions on the principles of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and sustainable development, the role of international development institutions in promoting a sustainable agenda and the impact of ESG practices on the decision-making process.
