Illegally kept Turkmen caracal was transferred to Tashkent Zoo

The Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the city of Tashkent received a report on the illegal keeping of wild animals in the territory of a Small industrial zone of Yakkasaray district.

The inspectors for the prevention of the regional administration conducted an inspection on the received appeal, during which they found out that the Turkmen caracal turned out to be a rare predator. The identified case violates the requirements of the Laws "On Nature Protection" and "On the Protection and Use of Wildlife."

For information: The Turkmen caracal is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and Annex I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) as an endangered, mosaic-like subspecies.

With the help of specialists from the Tashkent Zoo, the animal was euthanized with a special device and transferred to the zoo. The predator's condition is assessed as good. He is under the supervision of specialists.

The situation is currently under investigation.
