    Uzbekistan has ratified the Aarhus Convention

    Uzbekistan is strengthening measures at the national level to preserve the environment and provide reliable information about its condition, which is enshrined in article 49 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

    In this vein, the Law "On Accession to the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus, June 25, 1998)" was adopted. The document on this was signed by the President of Uzbekistan on March 11, 2025 for No. ZRU-1045.

    For reference: this Law was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on December 11 of this year and approved by the Senate on February 22.

    It is worth noting that the document was adopted in accordance with article 49 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which states that everyone has the right to a favorable environment and reliable information about its condition.

    The purpose of the Convention is to regulate cooperation related to public participation in decision-making that may have a negative impact on the environment, the environment and the health of citizens, as well as ensuring access to justice. It stipulates that government agencies and organizations provide the necessary information about the components of environmental elements, such as air, atmosphere, water and soil, at the request of the general public, and ensure public participation in the development of programs and plans aimed at the development of the industry.

    The accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to this Convention serves to adequately ensure human rights and freedoms in the field of ecology and the environment, to carry out joint efforts with foreign partner States to achieve environmental safety, as well as to further enhance the country's positive image and prestige in the international arena.
