On November 12-14, 2022, the prestigious competition among young programmers "Digital Uzbekistan: Agrohakaton-2022" is taking place in the Digital City Technopark in Andijan, which provides participants with a unique chance to demonstrate their ideas in the field of agricultural innovations.

The event was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) within the framework of the project "Joint prosperity through cooperation in the border regions of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan" jointly with the state institution "Center for Digitalization of Agroindustry" of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Khokimiyat of Andijan region.

AgroHakaton is the solution of tasks at the junction of agrotechnologies, IT and mechanical engineering, which are aimed at increasing the productivity of the agro-industrial complex. "Digital Uzbekistan: Agrohakaton-2022" is held in order to increase the interest of the younger generation in the field of ICT, identify and support talented youth.

The current competition is held in three categories: "Digitalization of the agro-industrial complex"; "Search for ICT solutions to the problems of processing and selling agricultural products"; "Innovative projects to increase employment of the population, especially women and youth, in agriculture". Currently, the participants are tasked with developing the most effective solutions on these topics.

"As it was noted at the World Food Forum, held on October 17-21, 2022 at the FAO headquarters in Rome with the participation of the national youth delegation of Uzbekistan, today's leaders need to listen to the opinion of the younger generation. The energy of youth is crucial to transforming our food systems. Today's youth should be at the center of decision-making. We invite the participants of the Agrohakaton to act boldly and decisively so that their dreams turn into concrete and practical actions. I hope that the brightest ideas of young people will be heard. This will make it possible to contribute to the development of agriculture in Uzbekistan and food security," said the Deputy representative of FAO in Uzbekistan Sherzod Umarov.

The representative of the UNFPA in Uzbekistan Yu Yu noted that the Agrohakaton, organized as part of a joint project, is an innovative approach to finding solutions to some important development problems.

"The area of the UNFPA mandate is youth empowerment - this means that every young person realizes their full potential, and I hope that the hackathon will be a good start for young developers in search of innovative solutions and other tasks throughout Uzbekistan. It will inspire other talented young IT professionals," he said. Yu Yu also stressed that the projects accepted into the final stage of the competition are very strong and of high quality.

At the end of the contest, the authors of the best ideas will be awarded valuable prizes. In addition, the necessary equipment and software worth 100 million soums for each project will be provided for the implementation of the three best projects.
