Senators and UNESCO experts discussed issues of improving media and information literacy of the population

    On September 19 of this year, members of the Senate met with experts from the UNESCO mission Olunifesi Suraj and Annette Obolenski.

    During the meeting, the experts highly appreciated the information openness of the country, the state of the media sphere and the conditions created for journalists.

    O. Suraj noted that he got acquainted with the strategy "Digital Uzbekistan - 2030" and highly appreciated the priority tasks for digitalization of spheres defined in it.

    He also highlighted Uzbekistan's historical success at the recent Olympics in Paris and noted that there are women among the winners, which indicates that the proportion of women in this field is growing.

    In addition, the experts noted that the positive reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years in all areas are widely covered in foreign media, which the public is regularly informed about.

    During the meeting, UNESCO experts stressed that research is underway to create a national strategy for media and information literacy, and the role of parliament in the implementation of this project is also important.

    The senators expressed their opinion on this issue and informed about the laws adopted in this area and the results of parliamentary control conducted by the Senate, as well as put forward their proposals and recommendations for cooperation with UNESCO.

    The parties agreed on further joint plans and activities that will be implemented in the future.
