According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, an agreement has been reached with the government of Egypt on the transfer to Uzbekistan by 2025 a total of 800 thousand drugs (about 40 tons) "Daclatasvir" and "Sofosbuvir" against hepatitis C and "Entecavir" against hepatitis B" for a total amount of 4.2 million US dollars, reports IA "Dunyo".
During 2023, some of these medicines with a total cost of 696 thousand dollars were gradually shipped to our country.
On February 10, Uzbekistan Airways, for the fourth time in 2024, delivered the anti-hepatitis drug Sofosbuvir-400mg, allocated by the Egyptian government as humanitarian aid to our country, from Sharm el-Sheikh to Tashkent. A total of 6,720 units of Sofosbuvir-400mg in 12 boxes will be transferred to patients of the Research Institute of Virology of the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that according to experts, on average, 3 packages of Daclatasvir and 3 packages of Sofosbuvir are needed per patient for a 3-month full course of treatment. The average price of this course of treatment in Egypt is $ 31, and in Uzbekistan until this year it was estimated at $ 100. 800 thousand medicines provided by the Egyptian government will satisfy the need for the treatment of 133 thousand patients. That is, if hepatitis C drugs for this number of patients were purchased at prices that the Ministry of Health currently buys from abroad, $13.3 million would be spent from the state budget of Uzbekistan. The funds saved in the budget of our state make it possible to increase the volume of hepatitis screening from the current 10 thousand to 1 million, detect hidden viruses and make it possible to completely eradicate the disease.
