Last night was the coldest in South Africa this year. The snowfall lasted for several hours. In Johannesburg and Pretoria, ice formed on the roads. Usually snow can be seen only in high-altitude areas, but this time precipitation fell in cities. A front of cold air masses from Antarctica is moving deep into South Africa, Mir24 reports.
The authorities advised South Africans to dress warmly, as a cold front has covered most of the country and will remain here for at least a week.
Meanwhile, last week was the hottest in the history of observations in the world, the UN World Meteorological Organization said in a statement. According to the organization, the average temperature in the world on July 7 was 17.24 degrees. This is 0.3 degrees higher than the previous record of 16.94 degrees recorded on August 16, 2016.
