An information center on technical barriers to trade is being created in Uzbekistan

    Resolution No. 153 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated 03/25/2024 "On measures to implement the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Technical Regulation" was adopted.

    The document approves the provisions:

    • About the expert commission in the field of technical regulation;
    • About the Information Center on Technical Barriers to Trade.

    An expert commission is established under the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation and (or) the relevant republican executive authorities to conduct an examination of the developed technical regulations, draft amendments to them, as well as to submit proposals for the abolition of existing technical regulations and issue opinions on them.

    Thus, the developer of the draft technical regulations sends it to the commission, whose members submit their proposals on it within 15 calendar days. After the meeting of the commission, at which a decision is made on the submitted draft, the decision is sent to the interested departments within a week.

    An Information Center on Technical Barriers to Trade is being created in the structure of the Institute of Standards of the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation. His tasks:

    • timely (at the stage of development) informing the WTO member states about the development of new technical regulations in the republic that are not based on international standards or differ significantly from them;
    • providing answers to requests from information centers of WTO member States;
    • providing opinions on notifications from WTO member States on the development of new technical regulations;
    • provision of notifications of WTO member States on planned or adopted decisions in the field of technical barriers to trade at the request of republican authorities, enterprises and other interested persons.

    The document was published in the National Database of Legislation and entered into force on 03/26/2024, Norma reports.
