The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva, Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Uzbekistan Matilda Dimovska, senior staff of the upper chamber of the Oliy Majlis, representatives of UNDP in Uzbekistan and the media.
The meeting participants discussed the results of the implementation of the joint project of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the UNDP "Achieving equality by supporting the implementation of the strategy for achieving gender equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan", as well as the work plan for 2023.
It should be mentioned that the main goal of the project is to promote systemic changes in the field of gender equality and the empowerment of women, as well as the transformation of stereotypes and norms that are firmly rooted in society.
The Chairman of the Senate T. Narbayeva noted that a nationwide study conducted jointly with the project helped to identify the root causes of gender stereotypes and patriarchal attitudes specifically for each region of the study, as well as to identify various forms of discrimination among the population. Thus, the application of jointly developed recommendations will give an impetus to the deployment of holistic and systemic transformations at the regional, district and local levels, combined with information and educational support, increasing the responsibility of citizens.
In turn, M. Dimovska stressed that Uzbekistan has recently decisively achieved excellent positive results on gender equality issues. Such a positive image of Uzbekistan has already been formed at the international level, and this is already a generally recognized fact. Undoubtedly, a lot of work has been done in Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring gender equality, important steps and efforts have been taken in this direction, which are systematically and steadily continuing.
Following the meeting, proposals were developed on a work plan for 2023 within the framework of a joint project in the field of empowering women leaders, improving socio-economic conditions and opportunities for women, as well as preventing and combating violence against women, the information service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
